The devastation is unfathomable.<br />I've never been involved in any sort of cataclysmic event, so I can only shake my head and babble polite inanities. Although, as you said, your own flood was nothing compared to Japan's crisis, you have lived through a crisis. It's in your past, now, but I'm sure you still feel the pangs of that day.
