Twinkle Lights

Tonight after a long day of last minute holiday errands, a Christmas party, lots of shopping, and a dinner out, we stumbled in the door intend on collapsing onto the couch and watching a movie. A funny thing happened though, quite the opposite. Almost instantly, we decided to head right back out. After a quick change of shoes we walked out into the gorgeous and unseasonably warm night to take a walking tour of the light displays in the center of our town. Two little girls donning Santa hats, my husband, myself, and our dog walked and chatted, pointing out our favorite twinkling lights, festive greens, and shimmering (sparkle!) decorations. We should have been exhausted from pace of the day we had, but a simple, quite, stroll with no destination in mind was more relaxing then any movie could have been.

Sparkle

Glitter makes me happy. Yes even that rougue glitter that gets on your hands and face and clothes from handling something sparkly. Perhaps it came with becoming a mother of two girls because I really can't recall a sparkle obsession in my pre child days.

I love how everything shines this time of year. Every time some shiny catches my eye, I am just a little more joyful.

Warm Gingersnaps

In all honesty, we've been eating these all month long! A fresh batch was cooling on my counter and the sweet warm smelling of ginger and sugar filled the air.

Gingersnaps

2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups vetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
4 cups all purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
additional sugar for dusting

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar and oil. Beat in eggs and molassis.
- In a seperate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the creamed mixture and strill well.
- Shape into 3/4 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place about two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until the centers spring back when touched gently. Cool on wire racks (though these are best when slightly warm!)

Wylde Ivy

As I carried the last load of Wylde Ivy orders into my house to await pickup tomorrow morning, I realized again for the one millionth time how much I love my job. I spend most of my waking hours running and multi-tasking. It's the way I'm built. I love that pace, but far too often in all the bustle I let my mind be over run with to do lists and worries and deadlines. When life slows down and I think about my business, a deluge of gratitude falls over me for all the wonderful people from all over the world I have met because of Wylde Ivy. As if that wasn't enough, I've grown so much as a person, learned so many new skills, and got braver in taking chances. Every single day I find joy in an email or a note from a customer. Sometimes I'm lucky enough for someone to share a story about how one of my products has touched their day. Funny, joyful, serious, or inspiring, these I cherish every one of these shared stories.

So, on this cold, clear December night and way past my bedtime, I am joyful for my little perfume shop on the web.

A Winter Walk

Today I'm joyful for the chance to take a little break from the chaos that comes with December. We bundled up and took a quite winter walk. We were surrounded in utter slience. Even the wind did not rustle a leaf. The only sound that pierced the frozen December afternoon was the cry of a gliding hawk....oh yeah, and my three year old twins rumbling and shrieking down the trail.

Old Christmas Music

Growing up, my mom filled our house with Christmas music...just as often in July as in December. My first memories were of them were being played on vinyl on her giant stereo in our living room. Over the years, my sister and I have constantly teased her about her Christmas music and movie obsession. The truth is though that nothing gives me that warm, homey, childlike wonder about the season the way that old music does. I've been playing music for my girls (on my ipod rather then my record player). I found lots of fun modern songs sung by cartoon characters and from movies they've seen, but I still find myself pulled towards the originals over the music that has been released in recent decades.

My joy for today is rocking the neighborhood with my Bing, Nat, Elvis, Judy, Burl, Brenda, and the rest of the gang.

My apologies to our 22 year old neighbors....you'll totoally get it in about 10 years.

A Handwritten Letter

I correspond with people all day long and close to seven days a week. I spend countless hours typing away. Emails, text messages, convos, status updates, tweets, tags, instant messages....the history of my adult life neatly organized into to short typed blurbs.

Real mail, the paper kind that gets delivered to the house has turned into nothing more then a mundane daily task of weeding out the bills from the junk. Aside from packages arriving with handmade goodies that I always look forward to, nothing special is ever delivered by the way of paper mail.

This time of year, our postal carrier's sack is extra loaded. More junk mail and credit offers, store flyers, and of coarse the annual avalanche of holiday cards arrived at our door everyday. I always look forward to that avalanche. I love Christmas cards...the colors, the glitter, and the photos.

Yesterday however, I get an extra special treat. Something arrived at my door so rare in these times that I actually cannot remember the last time I received one. What is this elusive little piece of joy? It was something so simple....a handwritten letter. In a time of being connected with the world, but hardly connected at all, what a beautiful little treasure.

Consider brightening the day of someone you know with some simple written words.

12th Day of Joy

It's that time of year when people are celebrating many different holidays and traditions. My family and I celebrate Christmas. We do the tree and Santa, cook a ton of food and consume too many cookies. Over the years, Christmas has become so much more for me. It is a time of reflection, graditutes, family, giving, charity, finding joy, and for slowing down and living life. It all comes easliy for me, especially this time of year except the last one. I'm hardwired to multitask. I have an insane desire to do it all...myself.

Since Thanksgiving I've been making a point to slow down and enjoy my family and the magic of this time of year. I've even been enjoying the overcrowded stores this year (I can only say that because almost all of the gifts I'm giving this year were either handmade or purchased online).

The girls are nearly four years old now and everything is so much fun to experience with them. For the past few weeks, we've been honoring some old family traditions and starting new ones.

For the next twelve days, I'll pop in and share some things that are bringing me joy this year.

Making cinnamon applesauce ornaments. Cinnamon has to be one of my favorite "home" smells. I cook with it every morning and in the winter, I overload my home with the warm aroma. I place the drying cookie sheets on top of my radiator and for two days the house smells incredible.

Frosted Mornings

Of coarse I've been thinking about the holidays and the winter season. Here in Pennsylvania, we had been having unseasonably warm weather. Though that made me very happy as I do not enjoy our long months of winter here on the east coast, it does not feel like Christmas is just two weeks away. We awoke two days ago to our first heavy frost. The rising morning sun shining through the glistening ice. Mist rising from the warming rooftops. This is what December should feel like.I enjoy buying and making handmade Christmas gifts. Etsy is always my first stop. I love supporting the handmade movement and I couldn't help but be drawn to the cool frosty images today.

Retiring Scents and Returning Favorites

So I agonized and I put it off for far too long, but it is finally finished now. I'm not missing, I'm just living....plus some shop talk

Hey all! I just wanted to pop in quick and say hi. I can't believe the last time I was here was in May. I knew the summer was going to go quick this year but, yet again, here I am wondering how on earth it is August already. I should have put it into writing that I was going to be taking a break from the internet for the summer....well as much of a break as I can while still running and online business. I've been trying to spend less time online this summer....less blogging, less facebook, less twitter. I've been saving up all those tiny moments stolen by the internet to get outside for a walk or even just sit on the couch and just watch tv with my girls (something I never give myself the luxury of doing).

There is only one month of summer left, one more beach vacation for my family, one last farewell to the summer solstice. In September, I'll be getting back into my usual routine around here.

Though I've been trying to keep myself unplugged as much as possible, I'm still logging in shop time planning my fall and winter line, getting soaps ready to be restocked, and trying to lure the "Monsters" out of hiding.

This year I plan to release my fall and winter scents as well as retire my spring and summer scents in the middle of September. I am working on a list of retiring scents now, which will be posted shortly. I'm just dragging it out and agonizing endlessly over the cut list. The Monsters in Love Collection will also be available starting mid September too!

I have a small soap restock coming in a few days with a larger one to follow next month. Up for release this month are Blackberry Cotton Candy, White Lavender, Unscented Castile Milk Soap, and Sweet Oat. I have a new and gorgeous Almond Meal and Oatmeal soap that is ready to go too. I haven't decided if I'll release that one this month or wait until the big release next month. Thoughts anyone?

Just a quick little reminder that I'll be closed August 18 - September 1st....toiling away over freshly made soaps and vials of newly created scents. That for me is pure love!

Oh yeah, and I'll also be out walking.

Name Those Scents Results

I think I am done! Choosing the winning names was beyond difficult. I had so many that I loved I ended up need to enlist some help from my friends and family. Even after I had their choices I spent a good two hours over analyzing and agonizing further. I think I gave myself a headache!

Here they are...hope you enjoy them!

1. She’s so Flirty

Name That Scent

or I should say, Name Those Scents!

I have six new scents all ready to go that are, at the moment, nameless. A few days ago I was venting via my facebook and twitter accounts when some lovely people offered to help. So here it is, I'm asking for help!

Help me name my new scents and not only will you get the thrill of seeing your creativity immortalized on a perfume bottle (a bit dramatic I know but I've been inside way too long today and it has me a bit punchy), you will also win a $20 gift certificate to my shop!

If you are feeling extra ambitious and are the type who likes to go for the extra credit you can also submit a fun, eloquent, and/or dramatic (there it is again) description to go with the name. You know I always like a good little story to go along with my scents.

Here are the notes and the briefest description of the scents. I'm excited to see what you come up with. I'm purposely not giving you any idea of what my inspiration was for the scents just because I'm really curious to see how your visions compare to the ones I had when creating them.

The Scents
1 - Sweet, playful, warm, and sexy.
Chilled green apple, smooth vanilla musk, white amber, sandalwood, a hint of jasmine petals, and citrus peel.

2 - Sweet lemons on the branch, green leaves, sun warmed wildflowers, crushed kiwi, and a slight breeze of warm salty ocean air

The Water Here and Help for Japan

I don't seem to be getting as much done these days as I should be. I could have something to do with my inability to rip my eyes away from the news and the unfolding tragedy in Japan. Our hearts go out to everyone effected by the quake, tsunami, and devastation that has resulted. That is it. The words just seem so small compared to what my family and I are feeling for the victims. I've tried for days now to write something eloquent that would truly express our thoughts, but I simply can't find the right words. Perhaps they don't exist for times like these.

Things are moving slower then usual for me now since I had to evacuate my shop due to flooding again two weeks ago. Unlike the 2006 flood (archived posts from July 2006 can be found here ) where my shop was submerged in over seven feet of water almost too quickly for much to be saved, this time around we were much better prepared. We were able to spend an entire day emptying my four room shop. Almost everything from my shop ended up stacked up in my kitchen, living room, pantry, and computer room of my house. Can you say cluttered? I wish I would have thought to take pictures of that. Well, I actually I do have a really funny picture of my kitchen so full of stuff that my husband is crawling on the counter to get over to where our cell phone chargers were stored. For his sake, I won't post that...unless he makes me angry...then all bets are off!

Thankfully, this time we only ended up getting a few inches of water and we did not need to evacuate our home. The bags were packed and by the door, but were wonderfully unnecessary. The only thing I lost was a big old bottle of violet scented oil that fell to the ground and smashed while I was putting it away. Whew, that was pretty potent for a few days. In fact my husband told me that you could smell it halfway down the block...and none of my windows where open!

What took five adults an entire day to pack up and move is taking me days and days to put back (in a methodical and organized fashion that is). It's been slow going but I would take this any day over the loss that we experienced in 2006. As humbled as we were with that situation, I know that it in no way compares to what hundreds of thousands of people are experiencing right now in Japan alone. I can't stop thinking about it and wishing that there was something more we could do to help.

I really wanted to be able to do something on a business level, like a special shopping day with profits going to Japan, but at this point I'm just not able to work quickly and effectively enough do anything on a grand scale. I'm still considering some options so perhaps I'll be able come up with something that I'll be able to manage. Coming and Going

I need spring to be here. Actually I need summer! The ground here has been snow covered for far, far too long. At this point I'd even welcome the muddy soupy mess that is our yard each March. Even though it is still only three degrees outside, I still get to plan for spring here at Wylde Ivy.

Lemon Cream Cheese Cake

I adapted this recipe from Martha's Meyer Lemon Cupcake recipe which can be found in the Martha Steward Cupcakes book (which I'm absolutely loving by the way!) I just made a few minor changes to the recipe, like using salted butter instead of unsalted, regular lemons instead of Meyer, and of coarse I made a cake instead of cupcakes. I very much like to cook and bake with what I have on hand. If I need to buy special ingredients or *gasp* plan ahead, it usually doesn't happen. I am going to give you the recipe for the cupcakes and at the end I'll include the changes that I made for the cakes. This recipe makes a ton of cupcakes. If you are making them for personal consumption and not planning on sharing them with a crowd of people, you may want to half the recipe or plan on freezing some.

A little preemptive warning. These cakes are dense, very very dense. It is much for of a pound cake type of consistency.

3 1/2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
2 tablespoons freshly grated lemon zest (Martha called for Meyer lemon zest)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (Martha called for Meyer lemon juice)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
1 3/4 cups (3 1/2 sticks) of butter, room temperature (Martha called for unsalted)
3 cups granulated sugar
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
7 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Preheat oven to 325. Line standard sized muffin tins with liners.
- Whisk together flour, lemon zest, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar together with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy. Beat in cream cheese.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating on low until each is well incorporated. Scrap down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
- Beat in lemon juice and vanilla.
- Add flour mixture in three batches, and be sure to only beat until the batter is just combined
- Divide evenly among the cups filling each about three quarters of the way full.
- Bake for 28 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean when inserted into the middle.

***Changes I make when baking this as a cake***
Warning, math ahead! If you are anything like me, this is when your brain with shut off to protect itself.
- I wanted to make a mini cake so I used two 6" inch cake pans.
- I halved the above recipe and it fit perfectly
- I baked the cakes just about 20 minutes longer then the time quoted for the cupcakes at the same temperature of 325). Basically I set my timer for the 28 minutes and then checked it every five minutes after that.

I filled this cake with a really easy homemade Lemon Curd that I made in the microwave, believe it or not! You can find the recipe for that here
Easy Lemon Curd on All Recipes
I've made this Curd a few times now and it has always come out great...even though microwaving eggs seems scary. I do strain the curd (you must do this as soon as it is done cooking and screaming hot) to removing and teeny, tiny bits of egg that have cooked. Seriously though, it has always been such a minute amount that I really don't have to strain it. I'm just a little particular about that. Oh, and I also omit the zest since Jeremy doesn't like chewing his curd...ha!

For those of you who may be out there waiting, beaters and butter in hand...I didn't forget you! This is what I've been doing instead.

I've been working very late nights in the shop and by the time I quit, pick up all the kid debris that is strewn about our living room, exercise (yes my sanity is questionable when I only start exercising at 11:45pm but it does relax me), and then stew myself in a hot bath while I catch up on some of the blogs I'm subscribed to...I'm pretty much unable to form a cohesive sentence. See, my case in point, look at the size of that last sentence. Surely I must have broken at least six grammer laws there.

I could just throw up a link to the recipe on some other website but I want to give you the full experience. So I'll see you tomorrow then!

The Month of Birthdays

That's right, I have birthdays galore in February. I'll be a cake making machine by month's end. The first is my mom's. The girls and I made her a lemon cream cheese cake with lemon curd filling. Yes, we are a family of lemon lovers. We still have a nice layer of ice coating everything outside so I wanted something to brighten up my mom's day with something sunny looking. What better then a tangy lemon cake and a pile of happy little daisies. The girls are getting to be quite proficient in the kitchen already. My secret evil plan to have them both go to culinary school and then of coarse repay me in culinary delights is coming along quite nicely.

They helped me mold the flowers (eating about half as many as they completed) and then color in the centers after they were dried. They also helped me stick the flowers onto the cake. Ah, marshmallow fondant...the world's yummiest play-doh.

I'll stop by tomorrow and share the recipe.

Hello February

February already and I know that I’ve (or I should say Wylde Ivy) was very quite in January. I’ve been working behind the scenes recovering form the chaos that is the holiday season and gearing up for the spring season. My business was exceptionally busy this holiday season….thank you to all out there! I was actually caught off guard a little and of coarse the holidays wouldn’t be the holidays without me trying to accomplish more then is feasibly possible for a mere mortal. I worked very hard but the holidays this year were magical. How could they not be with two “almost three year olds” in the house.

I took about a week after the holidays to recoup and change gears a little. Since then I’ve been working in the shop, still revamping my work stations to flow better with my work style now. I’ve been really looking hard at how I work and trying to find ways to make better use of my time. This means reorganizing my equipment and supplies, setting up my work stations a little differently, and of coarse purging some clutter that has been in my way. By clutter I mean the dribs and drabs of old packaging that I no longer use, soap mold in sizes that are no longer needed, old paper work and such. That is the thing about owning your own business. You must constantly evolve. Evolving means leaving behind what doesn’t work and reaching for new ideas and inspiration. I leave behind clutter when I evolve. It’s just me. I’ve been working at decluttering for a long time. Actually it was part of my resolutions for 2010 believe it or not. I’ve done really well at decluttering my personal life, but business life if a little harder for me. It is hard for me to admit that supplies I invested in are no longer needed and even harder for me to let them go. Oh I could go on and on about that subject, perhaps I’ll will later on. Right now I just wanted to do a quick catch up for the new year.

I had quite a few custom projects that I worked on in the beginning of the month. They are done and shipped or the soaps are curing and now it is time for me to start planning and getting ready for the upcoming spring season. I love saying that. SPRING! As I type this, we have piles of ice crusted snow on the ground and temps have been in the single digits at night. The sun rarely shines in January here. Our days are gray. This is the time I year I like to start thinking about sparkling fruit scents, dewy florals, and airy breezy scents as I envision lush wildflower meadows and gentle floating butterflies….perhaps even an old wooden swing hung from a giant Oak tree or a majestic Weeping Willow tickling the edge of a pond with it’s long tendrils….a place where everyone carries fresh farm eggs and produce home in wicker baskets and woman where grand floppy brim hats. Yep, that is how I get through the freezing months here, with sun soaked fairy tale like visions and run on sentences. Clearly watching Howards End the other days has not influenced my daydreams in the least.

Ok, out of Edwardian England and back to my workshop where the first order of business is to plan which scents I’ll be retiring next month and which scents will return from the spring and summer season last year. Keep your eye here for the retiring list coming in a few days. Most of the winter and autumn scents will have to be put away to make room for the new season scents. I have a few new scents that are in the works too, but it is just a little too early to be able to talk about that.

Soap is also in the works. I'm restocking my shop and getting ready for the new season of soaps scents! Today, my shop smells like Sandcastles and my beloved Shine soap. I restocked a few soaps today like Violetta, Rhassoul Glow, Sweet Oat, Black Tea Jasmine, and Sweet Alpine.

My First Treasury

I just created my very first treasury on Etsy! I want to get back into the "Treasury Tuesday" routine that I started and abandoned shortly after. It is fitting to start it back up with my own curated treasury list! I've been meaning to put together my own treasuries since I joined Etsy but never gave myself the time to try it. Perhaps I was a little intimidated by the sheer number of gorgeous treasuries out there. I want to make another one now! There are just so many gorgeous and unique (not to mention handmade) items on Etsy. I could loose myself for days just looking around on there.

Organizational Boot Camp and Holiday Preparedness

Day two of my little organizational and preparedness week here at Wylde Ivy is going well. I had some ideas to improve the work flow in my shop and office that I've been meaning to implement forever. My husband's work schedule has changed, drastically, which as thrown a wrench into a well oiled family schedule. I knew it was going to be hard getting used to a new routine, especially when we really liked the second shift hours that he was working. Second shift usually stinks, but for us right now, it worked. His new schedule eats into my shop time even more. I was cramming so much work into an already shortened work week (shortened by choice so I could spend time with my girls). On the bright side I get to spend even more time with the girls now. It is just going to take some time to get a handle on our new routine. Hopefully the changes I'm making now will allow me to be more efficient in both production and packing.

I have a ton of new soaps ready to go. I have almost all of them trimmed and packaged. I do have a few brand new soaps that I have to come up with names for, take pictures, do label design. More on those when I nail down names. Hopefully tomorrow I can post the full list.

In the meantime, here's a little peek of a brand new soap. Can anyone guess what scent it is? I'll give you a hint....it is a scent from my current scent list. Finding my footing and making some decisions....

This post was a long time in the making. Seriously, I stopped and restarted this thing at least seven times.

Lately, I've been feeling a bit lost...sort of off balance. I've been trying to find my footing for quite some time. It seems that Wylde Ivy took off without me and I'm just constantly running to keep up. It is time for me to finally make some decisions.

Ok, I don't want to scare anyone. Don't worry, Wylde Ivy isn't going anywhere! I love Wylde Ivy. I love my job. I love all of you. I love all of my little scent creations. I just feel like it is time to regroup a little. There has been this little nagging thing inside of me that has been growing bigger and louder lately and I think it is pushing me to shake things up a little bit.

I tend to loose my focus easily, especially when I am busy. I sit and look at the business and wonder how it all happened. My line got too big too fast (even though I did cut it drastically after I returned from my maternity leave). Somehow things are getting a little out of my control again.

First order of business is to downsize my scent offering a bit more. I feel overwhelmed, honestly. Keeping track of everything that needs to be instock, all those bottle staring down at me from the shelves...it is intimidating. I hate cutting scents. I am way to over analytical when it comes to decision making for starters. I also have this huge fear of cutting someone's beloved scent. It is time though. It is necessary.

I am very proud to use small businesses for most of my supplies. I'm happy to support fellow sole proprietorship businesses, family owned operations, and just love the ideals of small business workings. This had one very clear disadvantage however. Over the last few years I have lost quite a few of my suppliers when they closed or cut products from their offerings. In my scent library right now, I have at least a dozen scents (probably more) that have numbered days as I can no longer get a scent note that I used in the blend. This has stressed me out more then you can imagine. I pined over it, worried about it. Then one day I realized how much I love creating.

When I worked on Indigo Moon for the first ever customer commissioned scent, I was so happy. I live for creating scents. I love the creativity, the challenge, the whole process really. There are quite a few scents in my currant catalog that have been with me from the very start. I think it is time to let some of the old Wylde Ivy go so that I can be free to move on. Change is good. I have to keep telling myself that. I have always had both a love and a fear of change.

I want Wylde Ivy to be fresh and new. I love creating collections like my Water Collection from this past spring or my Monsters in Love collection from last Halloween. The It's my Party perfumes were particularly fun to create.

If I am removing a scent that you simply can't live without (don't worry, I've been there myself many times) don't panic just yet. When I cut a scent, I still keep the formula. I have many, many scents from Wylde Ivy past. I just lock them away in their own room so I don't have to feel them looking at me. If the components of the blend are available to me (sadly more and more are not), I can make it for you. All you have to do is ask.

So, I am adding more scents to the cut list. Other scents will be added to a seasonal rotation list. I have a few scents that I know I want to bring back next spring and I have indicated them. There are others that I'm thinking about but I don't want to commit just yet. I want to keep my options open. These scent will be available on my website as usual until through October 31st. After that date, they will be removed and will only be available by special request as long as my supply lasts.

Fall & Winter 2010 Scents Sneak Peek

Ok, I've been working on these names and descriptions for days (not straight through of coarse, the little girls are keeping me quite busy these days!). I finally have something slightly cohesive so I'm giving you a sneak peek here. All of the scent notes are final, I may still change some wording for the descriptions as I keep editing here. I'm just excited to share! My darn allergies got so severe that they actually put me a few weeks behind schedule with this release. So, without further ado...

The Pale Moon
Dark and sweet and alluring all in one. A cool, sweet, misty scent that part gourmand and part sensuality.
Notes of bourbon vanilla, shimmering musk, a faint essence of jasmine, vanilla orchid, English lavender, and soft blonde woods.

Pumpkin Masquerade
The pumpkins here are a little black at heart. Sweet October pumpkins with a dark twist of dry earth, black pepper, spiced vanilla, and warm musk.
Notes of pumpkin, vanilla, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, cedar, patchouli, and jasmine.

Ginger & Brulee
A captivating scent of spiced gingerbread, warm caramelized sugar, rich custard, and rare Indian sandalwood. So unique and addictive you just have to keep going back for more.

Raven’s Keep
Spicy and dark, a companion to the ever popular Raven scent.
Notes of smoldering black pepper, dry woods, smoked vanilla pods, dried jasmine and black currant, hints of crushed pomegranate and ancient myrrh and Tonka bean

Autumn’s Promise
A dry, earthy fragrance that has a unique uplift of bergamot and citrus, like the warm amber days of September. This fragrance starts off dry and sharp calming down to a rich, warm vanilla wood scent with just a touch of brown sugar and amber.
Notes of dry leaves, wood smoked breeze, amber, vanilla, musk, sandalwood, lemon leaf, bergamot, white florals.

Gingered Vanille
For those cold nights, warm and comforting spiced milk with ginger, caramelized sugar, bourbon vanilla, tiare petals, dry cedar wood.

Woodland Cider
Fresh pressed apples, cider spices, aged oak, dry amber, rustic wildflower honey, and whips of late autumn blooms.

The Monsters in Love Collection will be returning as well, with two new lovesick badies to add to the mix.

She Deviled
She had a very good job once. She was a shoulder angel. You know those tiny voices that whisper to you when you are stuck between choosing right and wrong? There is always a good voice cheering you on telling you what you need to hear and there is always the sinister little bad voice planting those dark little seeds telling you want you want to hear. Don’t laugh, it is a real job…and a highly respectable position at that. She was a good shoulder angel and she loved it. She was great at it. She prided herself on having over an 85% success rate in all of her centuries of employment. She’d whispered to literally 1000s of men and women, even children. She was given some of the most difficult cases. She was always professional always polite and never, ever did she let herself get attached to her clients. Never, until that last one.

She fell hard for him. To this day she doesn’t know quite what it was. Perhaps his deep slightly raspy voice, or the way he smelled after a shower, or the way her ran his fingers through his hair when he was in deep thought. She found herself completely defenseless with him and completely obsessed. She could not leave him even after she had been given her reassignments and ultimately her unceremonious discharge from duties.

She stayed with him, desperately trying to win his love. If only she could make him see her. Her obsession turned into resentment. She began to see that she’d never had him the way that she wanted him. Now, she works pro bono whispering into the ears of women giving them the tiny little pushes they need to get themselves noticed. So if you ever feel just slightly devilish, it just may be you own personal she devil on your shoulder.

She Deviled is fiery and rich. This is the color of red, invoking visions of red leather boots, smoldering black lined eyes, and a confidant smirk.

A Little Lighter the Usual
She was happy once, very happy. Newly married to the love of her life, happiness and a world of possibilities lay ahead of them. They say that you never know what you have until it is gone but this was never the case with her and her love. They cherished each other, lived for each other. The lay in the dark just talking for hours about nothing and everything.

They had given their entire selves to each other…but life has a funny way of rushing on without when you are so absorbed in love. So it seemed that they lost their happiness quickly as well. They now passed each other, two ships in the night, seeming to never speak a word. In his eyes where she once found warmth and passion now only lay emptiness and regret. Even the air around them seemed heavier. At times it was hard for her to catch her breath. It was as if she was moving against an invisible tide, like being caught in a waking dream. She’d see him sitting quietly in deep contemplation and she would so desperately want to speak to him, to say anything, but the words just never seemed to come. She’d want to reach for him but something always made her keep her distance. He never even looked at her anymore. His eyes would drift in her direction at times, but it was as if he just didn’t see her.

She so desperately needed to know what came between them, how things changed so drastically. She struggled to remember anything, any tiny detail but it was just so hard to think. The only images her mind could conjure were of the driving rain on the windshield that black night, a blur of light and sound, and finally the image of her bare feet dripping water onto cold cement of the porch as she sat alone on the creaking swing waiting for him to open the door. Perhaps it was only her who had changed. She did feel strange these days, not quite herself…almost a little lighter then usual. If she could just somehow find her way back to him she knew they could be happy again.

A haunting and sheer fragrance, both beautiful and a little sad.
Soft notes of white musk, vanilla orchid, raw vanilla beans, tonka bean, bergamot, vanilla infused sugar, lily of the valley, and wet blackberries

I Feel Accomplished

I feel like I made some good progress today. I spend almost the entire day tapping away on my keyboard and clicking pictures but I managed to list and restock all of the new soaps that were ready today. There were twelve of them! I also spent a good deal of time taking new pictures for my soap listings. I still have many, many photos to update but the progress feels good!

My favorite soap at the moment, Make Mine a Mocha. It just smells SO good. It gives me cravings. Seriously.

Ok, I forgot that when an item sells on Etsy, the heart count gets reset to zero. I've been knocking myself out trying to record all the items hearts that are coming in but now I'm worried that I'll miss some when an item sells (especially if it is during the night).

Did you know that my Etsy shop turns 2 years old this month? That is exciting! I can't believe it has been that long already. I've had so much fun the past two years and I'm looking forward to the fun new goodies I can share in the next year. I think a Etsy shop wide sale is in order! Are you new to Etsy? The Cut List and Retiring Scents

It's time again...the dreaded "Cut List". I hate retiring scents and I always put it off for far too long. As much as I hate deeming scents retirees, I love creating new scents even more. So to keep the room that I need to add to my collection, older scents and seasonal scents have to be retired. After all, it is almost time for the Fall and Winter line to make a reappearance!

I have already started on the new fall line and I definitely need to make some room around there. Here is the start of my tentative scent retirees. These scent will be available (while supplies last) through August. Keep an eye out here for any changes or amendments to this list. Some of these scents are being retired due to supply shortages but most scents will be back for the spring and summer in 2011.

I was working on taking pictures of perfumes and soaps for new listings in my Etsy shop. I found myself outside of my shop (I blame my short attention span) watching my fish. The Forget Me Nots have almost completely filled the small stream leading into my pond. There are hundreds of tiny blue flowers. It is so beautiful.

Playing Catch Up

Life is just zooming right along these days and I'm jogging behind, picking up stray pieces and doing my best to keep up and keep my mind. Somedays I'm more successful at this then others.

It is hot here...very, very hot. Monday the thermometers read 104 and Tuesday they creeped up to 107. I didn't even bother looking yesterday. That is hot enought to keep me and the girls hiding inside. So I'm letting the girls devestate their playroom and veg in front to the tv watching their favorite movies like Shrek, Toy Story, and Bolt. I'm using the inside time to do a little catch up on my laptop.

Here are some pieces form last week....

My Starling Perfume was featured on the Etsy blog a few days ago in a wonderful little article called Etsy Finds:Hot Date.

If you have some time you should definitely hop over there and check out the article. It is an adorable collection of Etsy finds perfect for every imaginable dating senerio. I particularly love the Carnival Joy Ride collection. You can find Starling featured under the Picnic Time collection.

My products were also featured in two new treasuries in the last week! The first is a super fun mix of, well pretty much all facets of Etsy. There are earrings, my Body Butter Creams, paintings, clouds, an orange stuffed lizard, and even a squirrel named Mabel! Life would be so much more fun if more things included a squirrel named Mabel. This treasury, curated bycooliewelryJR, pretty much showcases the fun of Etsy for me. A place where you can find anything and everything, handmade and vintage. Check out Tomatos, lizards, and Mabel.

The second is a jewel green infused treasury called Fresh as Cut Grass and curated by polkadotsmoonbeams. It features an array of items in all shades of green and inspired by grass. I love seeing my Green Grass perfume surrounded by such gorgeous fresh summery items!

Back in May, during my big birthday sale, I held a special raffle for prizes. One of the grand prizes was a Commission a Scent where the winner was able to give me the specs of their dream fragrance and I would create an entire product collection in their scent. Not only was the winner able to completely dream up the fragrance, they also were able to name it and choose the label artwork. So here it is, the first ever Wylde Ivy Commissioned scent...Indigo Moon.

Indigo Moon, dreamed into being by a Wylde Ivy customer, is sugared plums, soft red currants, sweet cream apples, vanilla drenched musk, and sheer white amber. The waning crescent moon hangs delicately in the ink blue sky as a 1000 glistening jeweled stars pierce the indigo night. I loved working on this project and I love the way the scent turned out. Look for this scent to hit my website in a few days.

Treasuries Galore!

Wow! I am so honored to be a part of such beautiful treasuries on Etsy! It is beyond exciting to see my perfumes featured alongside such gorgeous and creative works of art!

Lost Tales of Sweet Summer Days is a gorgeous treasury curated by KomisCouture and is filled with beautiful cool subduded island blues and spring greens. My newest perfume She Sells Sea Shells, looks fantastic nestled among this eclectic mix of beachy goods.

You know, I absolutely love bird imagery, especially those consisting of crows and ravens. I am super excited to have my Raven perfume part of OctopusStoneWorks treasury titled Quoth the raven "Nevermore!" - under $25. I would like one of each of the items listed in this treasury! This totally gets me in the mood for fall (I know, I know...it isn't even July 4th yet) but there is something so magical about the fall here in the northeast.

Ah, back onto summer! Fall holds a special place in my heart, but I'm not ready to let go of summer yet! I'm planning on squeezing every last drop of warm sunshiney goodness out of the season as I can. This is what I need to get me through a dark and rainy Thursday, bright tropical colors with a laid back beach attitiude! Amberike packed up a neat and tidy package of summer with her Summer is a Comi'n treasury. I think my Wylde Summer perfume is quite happy here!

Just take a look at the colors here! This treasury makes me want to repaint my entire house (and of coarse accessorize with each and every item in this treasury when I am finished)! Mrooart's Juice of the Solstice Fruits is filled to the brim with bright and happy goods including my new Iced Mango perfume.

I love the title of this one as well as the imagery. It started with Ozone is a breathtaking treasury curated by sacredsuds and makes me long for the cool and gentle rain of spring (as opposed to the hot, humid, downpours we are having today). I'm so happy my brand new In the Rain perfume has been included here!

There is something charming about summer. Don't you just love that title and don't you just love the picks for this treasury? I know I do! Quaint and darling and warm, tracelements put together a wonderful treasury and best of all, my Sun Tea perfume was included!

Ok, a little bit late on posting this one. The treasury has expired so I can't link it, but you can still enjoy the photo of the collection and maybe even get some gift ideas for that special man in your life. There is always birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and just plan old "your special" to me kind of gifts, right? HeapeEnterprises did an amazing job putting together this treasury full of gift ideas for men (because we all know they can be hard to shop for). My men's Cologne makes a great gift!

New Scents and New Products!

I just finished updating my site with all the new scents and new products! Wow, it was a lot of work. It took me two days to get it all finished. There was a ton to add to the site!

First of all there are now 18 new scents. Yep, you read that right, 18. At the last minute, I included Black Raspberry Crush scent in the Summer lineup. After I posted the preview of the soaps I got quite a few emails asking for this scent in bath and body and perfume products. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself! Here I a back in the shop after a fantastic little mini beach vacation. While it feels good to slide back into our farmiliar routine around here, I can't help missing the sound of the ocean in my ears and the warm sand underfoot. I shall miss you ocean, until we meet again in August!

This week I'll be spending time getting caught up on orders and emails. After they are all taken care of, then I'll be preparing the new summer scents for a tentative release next week. I still have to do all the label designing for all 17 scents! That is going to be a job in itself! Luckily I refreshed and inspired from my beach trip last week!

The Summer 2010 Collection Sneak Peek & Sample Pack

Want to get your hands on them right now? I made up a few sample packs with each and every scent from the Summer 2010 collection. They are ready to ship now and they ship for free! These perfume oil sample vials are the perfect way to test out the fragrances and choose your favorites before ordering the full sized perfumes…or even scrubs, body oils, soaps, and more! The fruit blends are particularly good in Sugar Scrubs.
There is a wide range of scents included in the Summer 2010 collection and some scents are very different for Wylde Ivy. For the first time ever, I’ve done a water inspired collection! A Major Restock and a Mini Vacation....

So my soap room is bare...very, very, bare. I've been making more soaps and have almost 10 batches curing now. If all goes to plan for the rest of the week, I'll have 6 more batches made and curing. I'll have a list of finished soaps with their "ready date" at the end of the week.

I am taking a quick, last minute vacation to the beach with my girls, my mom, and my sister. It is a little girl's retreat! Actually, my husband just doesn't have enough vacation time to waste right now since he has to save it for our family vacation at the end of the summer. A Little Bit of Spring

Spring has definitely sprung here in my little part of the world. Our weekend was absolutely beautiful. It even smells like spring outside. The girls were really excited to see our neighbors purple crocus so I thought it might be fun to take them to some of the local nurseries and get our own flowers. The girls love flowers. They love touching them and making the leaves and petals bounce around. I'm so happy that I may actually end up with some little gardening buddies to trek around and stare at plants and pretty colored flowers for hours and hours. As it turned out there wasn't much of a selection yet but we managed to find some nice pansies. Lily chose a flat of deep purple and yellow...or prupel as she puts it. Maya chose a flat that had some mixed colors but she liked the yewlow and bluuu (or yellow and blue in non toddler speak).

So we get them home and I get everything set up to plant them. All of my flowers have to be planted in containers or they run the very real risk of being trampled to death by my dogs. I gave each of the girls a scoop and put the bag of dirt between them. Dirt + giant scoops + two, two year olds = one big happy mess. Who knew toddlers would like handling the dirt more then planting the flowers. Ok, ok...I did but I severely underestimated their passion for filling the pots with it. When the big pots were filled and it was time to put the flowers in, the girls were not happy with me at all. Many a pansy went sailing out into the yard when they would return with their giant scoop of dirt to discover that I had stealthily plopped the flowers into their pots. When I finally managed to get the scoops away from the girls, the flowers into the pots, and the pots away from the eye of the hissy fit storm, most of the poor pansies looked like they had been through a war. Well, I guess really they had been. Perhaps they would have fared better with my dogs.

So the flowers are resting comfortably on my deck, for now...until I forget to water them.

A Day in the Wylde Life Gets a New Face

Well if you are here reading this, you probably noticed! If you are reading my blog posts through a feed then you may notice some changes to my blog the next time you visit. I spent this weekend tinkering with the layout and doing some little html hacks here and there. I wanted something bright and clean looking for the spring. I'll probably put some color in the background eventually, but for right now I wanted something fresh and minimal....like the feeling you get when you cast off your winter coat for the first time in the spring!

I still have some more work that I'd like to do and some more little changes. Basically I don't know anything about blog design. I know basic html but everything I did to my blog I learned from reading online tutorials. So, if you run into any problems or if something doesn't work for you just let me know. I'll do my best to fix it up. I did widen my blog considerably, because I like big pictures. I know there is a chance that it might run off the edges for people with lower resolution monitors. I checked it on my old 15 inch, and nothing important was cut off. If there is any major cropping for any of you out there, let me know and I'll shrink it down a little.

Also, let me know if the blog is very slow at loading for you....actually, while you are at if just let me know if there is anything annoying at all!

I Heart Patchouli Perfume on Etsy

The Scent:
I love patchouli, I really do. It is such an exquisite blender and base in fragrances. I use it in many of my scents, but I wanted more. I Heart Patchouli isn't a straight patchouli scent, rather a scent designed around patchouli. First I found a mellow but rich and smooth patchouli. To that I added a light top note of jasmine and just the barest note of citrus to give to give the scent some lift. Finally, I gave the scent an amber and musk base to give the scent a modern and sophisticated edge. Now this is how I like my patchouli!

Green Jasmine

I'll admit it, I was hording this fragrance all for myself. In the spirit of my New Year's resolution to embrace my inner minimalist however, I've decided to let it go. This is a limited scent. I had just enough to make one batch of soap and I'm sharing it! Of coarse I kept a few bars for myself. This is a beautiful Jasmine fragrance. It is thick and rich, just the Jasmine should be. This Jasmine carries a little secret. Underneath the heavy Jasmine fragrance there is a quick hint of lime peel that gives the scent just enough lift and pop to keep if fresh and modern.

Sparkling Clementine

A fresh, juicy, mouthwatering citrus. Put a little wake up burst into your morning shower. This is a bright clementine with just a touch of a champagne twist.

Bamboo Leaves

A gorgeous green blend of bamboo, white tea, and watercress with underlying hints of orchid petals and cedar. This fragrance is so fresh and beautiful, you will feel exhilarated with it is surrounding you!

Aerial

New Soaps Coming Soon!

There will be new soaps coming next week as well as a restock. Blackberry Cotton Candy will be ready to ship on Monday. I have seven new soaps to add to the website, but that also means I have to take new pictures, write descriptions, and make new product listings. I'm going to try to get them up on the site by Wednesday. Do you want a sneak peek?

Some of you may remember Sparkling Clementine. I haven't made it in a few years, but I've been craving it lately. It's back! It is such a beautiful, bright citrus scent. I love the way it makes my shop smell while it is curing. There is also a gorgeous Jasmine soap, a spa like green scented soap, a fresh green bamboo blend, a deep and rich Oakmoss, and I made a soap in the Aerial scent! Many of you have requested Island Beauty soaps. Well, I made it...and it smells great! The only thing is that it doesn't quite look the way I envisioned. It got very dark, much darker then my test batches. It most likely heated up more in the larger batch then my smaller test batches. The bad news is that it doesn't look as pretty and delicate as I had imagined, but the good news is that I'll be selling it at a special price.

Endangered Scents

When I create my scents I choose scent components from my vast collection. My fragrance collection spans most of an entire wall in my workshop, floor to ceiling. I have sourced fragrances from numerous suppliers because...well...I'm extremely picky when I create my scents! My scents have anywhere from four up to fifteen (or more) components that I blend myself to create my unique fragrances. The combination of using so many different suppliers along with many different fragrance components per scent is risky. If a supplier discontinues a scent or closes up shop and I loose even just the smallest component to my fragrance I either have to reformulate or discontinue the scent all together.

Sadly, I have two scents I have to add to the "endangered scent list" here at Wylde Ivy. Black Cat and Coconut Island Castaway are the two newest scents to be in danger of disappearing. I have small amounts of each scent on hand. I'm working to find an alternate supplier for the fragrances that I need for them. I just really want to let you know that they are available now on a limited basis. When I sell out, I'll be taking them off of the website indefinitely.

Sorry if this causes disappointment for anyone. Making the choice to discontinue a scent because of low sales or seasonal reasons is hard enough. I absolutely hate having to discontinue a scent due to reasons out of my control.

Temporary Etsy Shop Closing and New Perfume Photo

As you may know, I'm in the middle of redesigning my perfume line. I had supply issues in the past with my bottles and have just decided to start fresh with new packaging. I'm now down to just about 10 of my old bottles left in stock. When I run out, I most likely will have to close my Etsy shop down for a short time. I sill have to get the new packaging finished and get new photos for my listings. I'm hoping it won't take much longer then a week or two to get the shop back up and running again....but with my crazy hectic life and schedule I just can't say for sure.

If there is any perfume that you are in need of quickly please think about ordering very soon. Also, if you love, love, love, the look of my current bottles you may want to get some before the switch.

I was confused for a second and then realized that I did change the look of the soap with the last batch and totally forgot to change the photo on the website. I Need Some Perfume Testers! Quick!

I am going to be changing my perfume packaging in the very near future (look for a sneak peak soon). I'm in the final stages of choosing a design and I'm now ready to field test...so to speak. I'm looking for some volunteers to do some testing for me. I will send you a perfume (your choice of scent) and all you need to do is use it! Ok, well that isn't actually all. I will need to you inspect the bottle upon receipt and make sure it survived shipping well. I'll also want our opinion the bottle design and functionality. I'll want your input on the sprayer, overall looks, that sort of thing. I will need your review (via email) within five days of the perfume being delivered to you.

If you want to apply to be a tester, please just leave a comment at the bottom of this post. I will need your first name, the first initial of your last name, your state (this tester call is only open to US residents), as well as your scent choice. I will randomly draw a selection of qualified entries tomorrow at 4:00pm EST. I'll post a list of the names drawn here on the blog and you will need to email me with your full shipping address.

Monsters in Love, a Perfume Collection

Three new scents can be found in my Etsy shop as a part of a limited edition Halloween collection called Monsters in Love. This special collection was inspired by a funny vision I had of a zombie donning a dirty pale blue sport coat with a smashed carnation on his lapel and carrying an old broken box of candies. It made me wonder what kind of love lives monsters have.

These are limited edition perfumes and can only be found in my Etsy shop! These monsters go back into hiding on November 1st.

The Scents:

Lovesick & Undead

Vampires are old things. They've walked the earth for centuries but in trade, lost everyone they've ever loved. They tend to build up walls, and no one can really blame them. Their greatest gift of immortality can also be their greatest pain. It happens however, at least once, to even the hardest of vampires...they slip, they fall in love. It may be the sun flecked highlights glistening in her hair, or her summer sky blue eyes. She reminds him of his lost life, his lost humanity, his lost sun. Once it happens, he falls in love fast and hard. He loves her warmth, her delicate body, the passion and fear of life that all mortals possess. He loves her mortality too much to turn her and as happens with all fragile humans the light of her life vanishes one day. So he sits, locked away in the damp and dark pining for his lost love. He obsesses over her memory, etching the details deep into his mind. The days roll into years, years to centuries, and he walks on, alone and grieving for his lost love and lost sun.

Ah, the zombie. They are neither witty nor smart, and about as charming as a cinderblock. However, what the zombie lacks in charisma, he makes up for in devotion. When a zombie falls in love, there quite literally is nothing in the world that will keep him away from her. Slow and steady, he will make his way over walls, around burning cars, through muddy trenches until he is finally at his love’s side. Sure, he may loose an arm or the flesh from his torso, but what is that really in the grand scheme of things?

The scent of undying devotion. Notes of earth, heavy frankincense, black pepper, and crushed chocolates (that he so thoughtfully brought with him).

These scents are also available in a trio of perfume oils that are packaged in special bottles. The scents are limited edition, and so is the packaging! Clear glass bottles with a black lid that features a glass application wand. I only have a limited number of these sets available.

This afternoon I will be adding the new scents to the website! I've also decided to retire some scents to make a little room in my collection. I will have a newsletter sent out when the scents are all up on the website.

The new scents are....

For the sweet lovers:
Blueberry Batter Cupcakes - super sweet, moist, yellow cake batter mixed with sugar dusted blueberries (yep, they are that sweet!), and topped with a heaping pile of whipped vanilla frosting!

Pumpkin Roll Cookies - rich, spicy, and moist pumpkin cookies served up with a fluffy vanilla cream cheese icing.

Pumpkin Pecan - All the best sweets of fall, wrapped up in one delicious scent. Deep rich pecan pie filling laced with a creamy pumpkin base and dusted with autumn spices.

Just a few quick updates here.
I've finished up and shipped all orders that were received while I was away. I posted the first group of the new fall Aroma Melts. Blueberry Crumb, Black Cat, Wood Nymph, and Ember are now available in Aroma Melts! I also restocked OlivaBella in the Melts as well.

...and now for the new scents that I'm adding to the website right now!

Neroli Cream - The timeless, gracefully scent of orange blossoms meets the simplicity of pure vanilla cream.

Winter Cranberry - Sugared cranberries mixed with frozen blackberries and wrapped in a light white musk for a frosty and grown up cranberry scent.

Simple Wish - Keeping in the spirit of Simple Love, another fragrance inspired by my daughters. Simple Wish is a white bouquet of jasmine, lily of the valley, and neroli, with a touch of bergamot and blackberry all wrapped up in a sheer vanilla and white musk finish.

Love for Fluff - Can't get enough of marshmallow? Love for Fluff is a sugar dusted, vanilla dipped, homemade marshmallow kind of scent. Love for Fluff is simple, sweet, and so, so, good!

It's getting to be that time of year again. I'm going to have two mini shutdowns coming up. From August 10 - 16 I'll only be in the office very limited hours so I won't be able to ship orders during that time. I'll be back in the office on the 17th to ship out any orders that were received during this time. Orders placed through Friday August 7th (noon EST) will be shipped out before the shutdown. Orders placed after that time will be shipped after my return.

In September, I'll be closed from the 4th - 13th for vacation. I won't be in the office at all during this time, so any emails or orders received will be taken care of on the 14th when I return. The last day to place your order and have it shipped out before the shutdown will be Thursday September 3rd.

Where did June go, seriously? Last thing I remember was setting up the Name That Scent Contest...then bam!...it is July 4th already. I hope everyone enjoyed our little American holiday weekend.

So Monday was the big day, the day I had to finally pick the Name Contest winner for the scent formally known as Sarong. The contest turned out to be huge! I got hundreds of entries and so many fabulous names. It gave me a mild panic attack trying to choose a winner. There were funny names, elegant names, clever names...oh my! In the end I finally narrowed it down to a handful of my favorites (and most fitting to my current line). I then enlisted help of some of my family and friends who happened to be nearby and took a vote to pick a winner (since there was no way I would be able to choose).

The official name chosen was "Wylde Summer". To me, this is the scent of summer...THE SCENT. It takes me back to being at the beach years ago, baking in the sun, sand clinging to your skin, the salt water drying in your hair, suntan lotion melting off your skin. Ah, those were the days! I can still hear the waves crashing and the seagulls screaming. Since this is such an important scent to me, it is fitting that it should carry the "Wylde" name!

Since I had such a hard time choosing, I also sent prizes to the creators of the "runner up" names. I would like to try and tinker in my workshop and come up with some scents to go with those names. Oh, and there were also the three winners for the name draw part of the contest. All winners will be listed below.

A huge, huge thank you for everyone who joined in the Name That Scent Contest. I had so much fun, I'm already planning a new contest soon!

I had a lot of fun with the last naming contest for OlivaBella. Everyone was so creative, it was really hard to choose!

The new summer scent needs a new name! Name it and win, here's how!

So here we are, the new summer scent that was called Sarong now needs a new name! For those of you who have already sampled the fragrance, you're ahead of the game! Wear it, sniff it, study it...then name it!

The changing face of Wylde Ivy

I need to start working on something that I've been putting off for far too long now. It wasn't intentional by any means, it just seems that there is never enough time left over for me to take care of my website properly. Wylde Ivy is 100% a one woman show. Everything from product development, scent creation, packaging design, photography, order packing, customer service, and even web maintenance is all done by me. Ah, I feel tired just thinking about all of that!

Well, I need to spend some time over the next few months sprucing up the website. I'm going to do what I can like redoing the photos, descriptions, reorganizing a bit. I may think about changing the face of the website a bit like different colors, layout, etc. We'll see how it goes :)

Summer Scent News!

Ok, I have completed all (except for a few orders that I had to wait for supplies for) sale orders! I worked in a frenzy last week, most of which was a blur! I love the feeling of getting orders out ahead of schedule as I know how hard it is to wait when you order something online! My stubborn streak keeps me working a break neck speeds, but after so many days of that I need to take a day or two to regroup.

Now, for everyone waiting for the summer scents....

I'm going to be adding the summer scents to the website on Wednesday. I won't be able to make it into the office tomorrow. My daughters have a routine developmental assessment tomorrow...the hospital where they were born keeps a close eye on all of their premature babies. We have a long drive and these are long appointments. I must admit though that I am anxious to see the doctors since Lily and Maya are now walking and talking! The docs are always so thrilled to see how well they are doing, and well, I just love when the gush over my girls!

So, I'll be putting some finishing touches on the line and on the descriptions (always the hard part!) on Tuesday. I have some of the descritions finished now.

The Birthday Sale from last Tuesday was a success. I'm buried in orders right now! I just wanted to give you a little update on where I am at as far as order prep and shipping.

All of the Premade Item only orders have all be shipped out or are getting the finishing touches on and will be shipped out tomorrow morning! I have started the orders containing Custom Items today. I am pulling these orders out in batches of 10 in the order that they were received. I work on 10 orders at a time. I'm going to work hard on these orders this week and hopefully get a good bit of them out.

I'm Back....

I'm back from my little week long adventure in inventory...organizing....cleaning....and generally doing all of the responsible adult kind of things. Yeah, it was a boring week. But on the plus side, I was able to update my online inventory to include some items that were showing out of stock...when they actually weren't.

I'm reorganizing the website a little bit. It seems like I'll be able to keep doing the Custom products full time (yay!) so I'm making a more permanent spot for them on the site. Now when you click on "Bath and Body", you'll be able to choose from two sections...the Custom Products and the Ready Made Products. It is also the same for Perfumes. I've also added all of the Classic Wylde Ivy scents to the Custom Shop, like HoneyBee Good, White Cashmere, Blackberry Cotton Candy, Black Tea Jasmine, Fairy Wings, Little Shop in Salem, Violetta, Wylde Cocoa, and Wylde Vanilla. Now you can order these scents in the Custom Shop products or if they happen to be out of stock on the Ready Made product side, you can scoot over to the Custom Shop and order them there! I have new scents...I've got lots of new scents! There are over 20 brand new, never before seen scents coming next week. I just need a little more time to get them named and write up descriptions as well as get them on the site.

I've done a few scents to go with the popular Sugar Rose. Two that are ready now are Frosted Lavender and Violet Fluff.

I also have three new scents that are based on my Bloom fragrance. I wanted to do some nice, realistic, dewy, fresh spring floral scents. So far I have Rose, Peony, and Tulip.

As for th e rest of the scents, they are all summer inspired scents that are tropical, sugary sweet, and fun!

I've been busy this week, counting inventory, organizing my stuff, preparing the summer line, formulating new scents (yay!), and doing spring cleaning around here. It's been a busy week!

April Closing, New Scents, and Reoganization

Ok, so a whole two weeks has gone by and I didn't get to send out a newsletter. Time seems to be slipping away faster these days, somehow. I'll update you here...

The Custom Shop is going well. I'm keeping up with the orders and getting them out fairly quickly (at least way under my stated turnaround time!) I am a little behind on some aspects of the biz....just because getting the orders out takes top priority.

So I will be closing for a week at the end of this month. I need to do inventory and put the finished touches on some new scents that I have in the works for the summer! I also need to reorganize here. I think I can optimize my work rooms to be more "custom product" friendly. After the flood that we had back in 2006, I got to completely redesign my entire shop....everything from the storage rooms, to my packing room, to my production room. At that time, I wasn't making products to order like I am right now. I think I can rearrange things here so I can work even more efficiently. Which would hopefully save me time and make things go even quicker.

A Soap Marathon....

I've been running a soaping marathon....ok, so maybe it is more like a sprint! I'm in the middle of a big soap restock on my website. I have lots of soaps on my list to make. I've also be waist deep in test batches lately. I've been having fun testing lots of new scents in soap. I'm hoping to be able to release a couple of brand new soaps soon! I've even been testing some of my Custom Shop scents in soap...like Black Cat, Black Tobacco, Simple Love, Wood Nymph. It's a bit early to tell right now if the scents will be winners in my cold process soap, but so far they are looking good! Keep your fingers crossed!

For all of you who subscribe to the email notifications from my blog, you may have received a strange blog post via email. This was a blog post from back in October! I'm not sure why such an old post was sent through the email service. I'm going to look into it.
