A New Halloween Scent and a Contest!

The Scent:
Sinisterly sweet, warm, and sultry. Notes of smoked vanilla pods splashed with bourbon, amber resin smothered with caramelized sugar, pomegranate soaked orchid petals, and spicy pink peppercorns all wrapped in a thin veil of delicate musk.
Fans of It's My Party Bad Girl Edition will enjoy this darker, slightly less sweet scent.

This scent belongs to the Halloween Collection. The products from this collection are available until November 1st.  Find the entire collection here.

*****Story My Scent Contest*****

If you're a follower of Wylde Ivy, you probably know that I love to start my Halloween scents out with a story. Usually, I have the story in my head before I begin formulating the scents. Well, this scent was born a little differently. I had the name and the label art in my head first, and created the scent around that. As I sat staring at a blank monitor trying to compose the story, I decided to take the fun way out. I'm letting you write the story! The rules are simple. Really anything goes...short, long, silly, scary, avant garde, or conventional....as long as it is safe for general audiences. Submissions are due by October 29th. I will announce the winner on Halloween. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to Wylde Ivy. Please email your submission to soap [at] wyldeivy.com. Need some inspiration? Check out my other Halloween scents in my Etsy shop.

Big Reveal Party Day 7 - Three Scents are Back!

It's finally here!  Today I get to announce what previously discontinued Wylde Ivy scents will be making their comeback on the 17th!  These scents were hugely popular.  The only reason that they were even dropped was because key aroma components that I used to make them were discontinued by the manufacturers.  They were such a long time in the making, or I should say the remaking.  I fussed over these scents for so long, rebuilding them and in the end, creating even better scents.

So, without further ado, may I present:

Black Cat No. 13
This has to be one of my most requested fragrances, and for good reason. I'm thrilled to offer it again.  Yes, this actually is the 13th version that I created.  Dark and secretive, seductive and elusive, the Black Cat mesmerizes all in it's path. A rich, fall inspired fragrance of black vanilla, exotic spices, white patchouli, and musk topped off with a hint of sugar dust and jasmine petals.  This new kitty is even richer and has more secrets then its predecessor.

I Heart Patchouli
I love patchouli, I really do.  Did you know that  patchouli can range from intensely earthy to mellow and smooth, with an almost creamy quality?  It all depends on the origin, age, and process of extraction.  Patchouli mellows and gets more well rounded with again.  I prefer the more mild, creamy side of Patchouli.   It is such an exquisite blender and base in fragrances.  I use it in many of my scents, but for this one, I wanted more.  I Heart Patchouli isn't a straight patchouli scent but rather a scent designed around patchouli. First I found a mellow but rich and smooth patchouli.  To that I added a light top note of jasmine and just the barest note of citrus to give to give the scent some lift.  Finally, I gave the scent a modern and sophisticated edge with an amber and musk base.  Now this is how I like my patchouli!

In the past, many customers and patchouli lovers requested this scent to have even more patchouli.  For now, I am offering this in two versions!  Mostly I couldn't decide between the two scents I created, so I will let you decide!  I Heart Patchouli will come in Lite and Amped versions.

I Heart Pachouli Lite
This scent is just as the name suggests this scent is lighter on the pachouli and has a more musk and amber prounced base.  This scent is mysterious and totally sexy.  This is a good scent if you are intregued, but a little afraid of patchouli or if you are just looking for a gorgeous, deep scent.

I Heart Patchouli Amped
As requested, now with even more patchouli!  A robust but sophisticated patchouli blend.  In this version, the patchouli is the star with the other notes acting as support.

He Loves Me Not
Beautiful, haunting, sweet, and just a little dark.  My new version of He Loves Me Not is more sophisticated and well rounded than before.
The hazy summer day turns dark, clouds fill the once bright sky.  She takes shelter in the dark hollow beneath the old cluster of trees.  She loosens the grip on the flower in her hand as the last petal falls to the mossy forest floor...He Loves Me Not.
Notes of: Vanilla, Jasmine, Orchid, Dry Wood, and Black Musk.

Contest Winners
My girls had fun drawing the names from a jar.  After all the bouncing and excitement they clutched the little scraps of paper in their hands and wanted to know what they had won.  We discussed (again) that it was a contest for my customers to win some of the perfume that Mommy makes.  The easily relinquished their scraps of paper and bounced into the playroom to enthusiastically finish coloring their pictures.  Ah, to be four again.

Winner out of the Black Cat guesses: Beth M.
Winner out of the He Loves Me Not guesses: Sea Gypsy
Winner out of the I Heart Patchouli guesses: Kristina E.
Because I introduced a version of Aerial yesterday and because I wanted to have an even number for my girls to draw, I also did a drawing for the Aerial guesses!
Winner out of the Aerial guesses: Yuanting

Winners please contact me using the contact form on my website.  Give me your mailing address and let me know which scent you would like to try.  You can choose from any of my current scents or anything that I have announced!  Thanks for playing everyone.  I have another contest in the works so stay tuned!

Big Reveal Party - Day 3

Today I have a several surprises.  One of them is a new scent reveal.  Shall we get to that one first?

Wanderer
An old soul and a young heart, familiar yet distant.  She keeps the sun at her back, always moving.  Keep your feet light and your heart open, they once told her.  It has taken her all these years to know what they meant.
Airy top notes of fresh bergamot and orchids, a warm base of dusty amber, cedar wood, smoked vanilla pods, and aged musk.
Wanderer goes on as aged amber vanilla and and it mingles on the skin, more of the top notes of bergamot and orchid peek out.  Wanderer is a mellow, warm sweet musk.

Wanderer will be available (with many more new scents) on September 17th in perfume, lotion, cream, scrub, and body oil.

More Returning Scents
Now onto the next bit.  I've barely been able to contain myself over this news.  Do you know how long I've been keeping this project a secret?  Forever it seems.  It has taken a long time to get them just right.

I have reformulated three previously discontinued Wylde Ivy scents.  These three were all discontinued after I lost the suppliers for specific components used in the scents.  All three were much beloved scents and I'm sure the loss of these scents has affected your daily well being.  Ok, ok...too far, too dramatic I know but that is sure how it felt to me when I had to put them away!

I've tinkered and toyed with these.  I made up version after version.  I scoured suppliers all over the internet for just the right pieces of the scent puzzle.  I am finished!  These scents are back and dare I say.....they are even better then before.  Truely.

So here it comes....I'm not telling which three scents these are today.  Sorry!  I'm going to make you play a little game to guess.  You get three guesses.  Submit your guesses as comments below (one guess per comment please).  In three days I will take all the correct answers and enter them into a drawing.  I'll draw three names.  See a three pattern?  It wasn't intentional really!  Each of those three winners will receive a perfume, lotion, and body oil trio in a scent of their choice.

Obviously, if you've been with Wylde Ivy for awhile you're probably harboring some suppressed angst over a discontinued scent so you'll have some to choose from.  No?  Oh yeah, I'm the one that has issues with discontinued scents. If you haven't been with Wylde Ivy for very long but would like to play, you can still make some educated guesses by perhaps, searching old blog posts...cough, cough...just saying.

Contest ends Sunday,  September 9th at midnight EST.  I will announce the winners and the scents on Monday.  Limit three entries per person.  Contest open to those within and outside of the United States.  Winners will have three days to contact me or the prize will be forfeited and offered to another winner.

...and the winner is...

Where did June go, seriously? Last thing I remember was setting up the Name That Scent Contest...then bam!...it is July 4th already. I hope everyone enjoyed our little American holiday weekend.

So Monday was the big day, the day I had to finally pick the Name Contest winner for the scent formally known as Sarong. The contest turned out to be huge! I got hundreds of entries and so many fabulous names. It gave me a mild panic attack trying to choose a winner. There were funny names, elegant names, clever names...oh my! In the end I finally narrowed it down to a handful of my favorites (and most fitting to my current line). I then enlisted help of some of my family and friends who happened to be nearby and took a vote to pick a winner (since there was no way I would be able to choose).

The official name chosen was "Wylde Summer". To me, this is the scent of summer...THE SCENT. It takes me back to being at the beach years ago, baking in the sun, sand clinging to your skin, the salt water drying in your hair, suntan lotion melting off your skin. Ah, those were the days! I can still hear the waves crashing and the seagulls screaming. Since this is such an important scent to me, it is fitting that it should carry the "Wylde" name!

Since I had such a hard time choosing, I also sent prizes to the creators of the "runner up" names. I would like to try and tinker in my workshop and come up with some scents to go with those names. Oh, and there were also the three winners for the name draw part of the contest. All winners will be listed below.

A huge, huge thank you for everyone who joined in the Name That Scent Contest. I had so much fun, I'm already planning a new contest soon!

Name That Scent Contest Winner: Sandi G.
Runner Up: Jen S.
Runner Up: Erin S.
Name Draw Winner: Patricia S.
Name Draw Winner: Renee Q.
Name Draw Winner: Val.

Got Reviews? Send them in for a Chance to Win!

For quite some time (actually an embarrassingly long time) I've been meaning to put together a reviews section on the website. I would like there to be a place where you could go to read reviews of scents and the products as well.

Right now, there is a place in each product listing where members of my website (people that have signed up for a free customer account and are logged in) can leave and read product reviews. Since I now use drop down menus for the scent choices instead individual product listings for each scent, there is no where for reviews of the scents themselves to be left.

This will be my project for the New Year! I want to compile a list of reviews (both for the scents and the products) into one page so you can view them quickly and easily. I can't promise this will happen very fast since my little ones are now very mobile and need lots of attention.

I need your help!
Send me your reviews and you'll be entered in the monthly drawing! For every review you send me, your name will be dropped into a bowl. You get an entry for each scent or product you review! In the beginning of each month, I'll draw a name from the bowl and that person will get a $25.00 Wylde Ivy gift certificate! The more reviews you send me, the more chances you'll have of winning.

Just a few rules.
Of coarse there are always rules. I need helpful, informative reviews. I won't honor reviews that simply say "I like it" or "It didn't work for me". Tell me (or actually the readers why you liked it, what notes you smell, what is smells like to you, or how it makes you feel. I'm doing this for my customers so they can get a better grasp of the scents before ordering. Please only write reviews for scents and products you have actually tried. I am planning more contests for 2009 that will be open to all (both long time Wylde Ivy customers and for people who have never tried Wylde Ivy). I reserve the right to reject entries if I feel that they are being written by someone who has not smelled or tried the product. By submitting your review, you are giving me permission to post your review on my website, newsletter, Etsy shop, Myspace, and/or Blog. When I post the reviews I will use only your first name. If you prefer to remain an anonymous contributor please let me know when you submit your reviews.

Be as creative and eloquent as you like!
I know sometimes I just have so many things going on at once that I don't leave enough energy for describing my scents. I love all my little scent creations and sometimes I just do not do the little guys justice with my descriptions! If I really love your review I may use it in the scent descriptions! If I do, you will automatically get a $25.00 gift certificate plus your name will still be dropped into the drawing bowl for a chance to win the drawing.

How to Submit Your Reviews
Use the contact form on my website. You can find that here http://www.wyldeivy.com/help.php?section=contactus&mode=update Be sure you use a valid email address (double check that you have entered it correctly) so if your name is drawn I will be able to contact you. You can enter as many times as you wish. You may also review multiple scents at once (you will still reviews a drawing entry for each and every scent!). You don't need to send an email for each review. Just be sure you let me know which scent you are reviewing.
Please indicate that your a submitting the reviews for the contest entry.

You may not see your review added to the website immediately. This is going to be a side project. Your name will be entered into the drawing as soon as I receive it however, even if it takes me a little while to get your review posted.

You may review all Wylde Ivy scents, products, and even my customer service if you wish!

The first drawing will be in February 2009. Winners will be contacted via email.

Thanks and have fun!
